Kaarina has a background in music education, especially in early childhood music education, music teacher education, and child development and learning. Her doctoral thesis (University of Jyväskylä, 2009) was about the connections of pre- and postnatal music education with early mother – child interaction, underlining the connections of music and language. Kaarina was earlier qualified as a nursery school / kindergarten teacher (Jyväskylä 1983), a music playschool / early childhood music teacher (Jyväskylä 1995) and a music teacher (Jyväskylä 1998). She made her licentiate thesis (Jyväskylä 2005) about the expertise in early childhood music education, the training vs. the demands of the working life.
Kaarina's working career includes experience of working as a kindergarten teacher, early childhood music teacher and music teacher (secondary and high school) as well as working as an entrepreneur in her own music school. She has also taught music (music pedagogy, methodology, piano improvisation etc.) for music education students in the University of Jyväskylä and the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, as a senior lecturer. The present study in the University of Helsinki is a multidisciplinary study on the wellbeing of children from 8-12 years, called Lasten Ikihyvä (meaning the child's "positive equilibrium" or "internalized positive sense of self"). |

Jessika has a solid background from working with children. She has specialized in the field of early childhood music education but worked also with children over 7 years and youngsters. Among one of the few music teachers in Finland she is teaching English-speaking music groups. At the moment she is also working as a kindergarten teacher with under 3-year-olds.
As well as music also language learning has been a part of her life. To challenge herself Jessika did a degree in English while her upper secondary studies. The Cambridge University's AICE certificate has offered a lot of help while introducing the Finnish music education system to her bilingual and/or immigrant students and their families. As a deputy member in the Association for Finnish Early Childhood Music Teacher she has an advantageous position to work for and distribute music education in Finland. |
